Description

Pappy Van Winkle's 23 Year Old Family Reserve 95.6 Proof NV

2005 Release, Stitzel-Weller, bottle #A485, gold wax capsule lightly cracking around the top and vertically through the air bubble, includes original black velvet bag and neck tag

By the early 2000s, Julian Van Winkle III had become a victim of his own success. His Van Winkle whiskeys were gaining admirers, so fast that he could barely keep up with demand. To make things harder, his source for aged whiskey, the Stitzel-Weller Distillery, had shut down in 1992. Fortunately, relief came in the form of an arrangement with Buffalo Trace, which would not only continue to bottle for him, but distill whiskey to his specifications. In 2002 he accepted the offer and closed his Old Commonwealth bottling operation. This bottle, from 2005, is noteworthy for being one of the earliest 23-year-olds that he released under the new arrangement, using his old, legendary whiskey and Buffalo Trace’s advanced bottling system.
