The reference 6234 is widely regarded as the grandfather of the Rolex Daytona. Produced between 1955 and 1961, it shares many features with the later Daytona, while predating some of its technological innovations. During its six-year production run, Rolex made approximately 500 examples per year, totaling around 2,300 stainless steel models and fewer than 150 in 14k and 18k gold.

Like the later Daytona, the reference 6234 utilized Rolex’s patented Oyster case, capable of withstanding water pressure and remaining waterproof up to 200 meters. While it predates many modern Daytona features, the 6234 included a technically innovative detail for its time: magnetic resistance, which helps maintain the watch’s precision and accuracy.

This present example is distinguished by a rich patina on the dial, enhancing the vintage character and charm of this historic timepiece.
