Nicolaus Michael Spengler (1700-1776), glass painter, worked for Landgrave Ludwig VIII (1691-1768), for whom he created two reverse glass paintings for the Kranichstein Hunting Lodge north of Darmstadt, now the Kranichstein Hunting Lodge Museum. He drew inspiration in particular from the works of the German painter Johann Tobias Sonntag (1716-1774).
