Description

3-inch dial with matted centre (minute hand lacking), the movement with fusee to the verge and balance escapement, the striking train with standing barrel and striking on a bell mounted in the base, the backplate with pierced and engraved balance cock and signed Ledeirk, London, the hexagonal case with glazed side windows and winged paw feet

Johan Gottfried Kriedel, a German clockmaker from Bautzen in eastern Germany, is known to have signed some of his clocks using his name in reverse, Ledeirk. He also spuriously used London as the location in attempt to sell his clocks as English or to sell them to the English market.
