Description

woodblock print, from the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (Fuji sanjurokkei), signed Hiroshige ga (Pictured by Hiroshige), published by Tsutaya Kichizo (Koeido), 4th month 1858


Vertical oban: 35.3 x 24.1 cm, 13⅞ by 9½ in.

The ‘One Stone Bridge’ in the ‘Eastern’ capital of Edo, present-day Tokyo. The white cone of Mount Fuji towers above the distant keep (tenshu) of Edo Castle. In the foreground, the fronds of a large willow tree hang over the bridge as pedestrians cross the arch.
