HARRY S. TRUMAN
GROUP OF TYPED LETTERS SIGNED AND OTHER ITEMS SIGNED FOR PHILIP D. SANG
7 typed letters signed ("Harry S Truman"; one signed twice; some possibly autopen), each one page on Truman's personal letterhead, Kansas City and Independence, Missouri, 7 December 1955 to 8 June 1961, most with original envelopes, accompanied by two invitations, both also signed by Truman.
Each of the letters is sent in gratitude for the gift of a book on the Civil War, many being the selections of the Civil War Book Club (Sang had had Truman enrolled as a member). The letters are accompanied by invitations to a dinner honoring Truman on the occasion of the three thousandth anniversary of Jerusalem, Covenant Club, Chicago, 28 November 1953, and to a reception with Truman at the residence of Bernard J. Shiel, Bishop of Chicago, 9 December 1960. The first invitation is signed by Truman, the second is inscribed "Best wishes from Harry S Truman 12-9-60."
