A heirloom treasure from an Australian family, the present watch tells a story from the Great Southern Land. The watch was owned by Mr Thomas Foy, a grazier born in Deniliquin, North South Wales in 1878. Mr Foy was the owner of “Quandong Park” in Barellan, a farm producing wool for the overseas markets. He married Elizabeth Lillie Keenan in 1929 and had 2 sons, Roger in 1930 and his brother, Geoffrey in 1932.

In 1937, the family set sail onto a voyage to England for the coronation of King George VI on the “SS Esperance Bay”, departed from Sydney. The watch was believe to be acquired from “Dunklings” jewellers when docking at Melbourne. Unfortunately, the family had to leave ship in Fremantle after their younger son fell ill. The family kept the pocket watch nevertheless, as a valuable piece of memory from the journey. The piece was passed down from Mr Foy, to Roger and to his daughter, the present owner.

The watch is preserved in remarkable condition. Upon close inspection, the dial and movement are co-signed Dunklings, a prominent jeweller and manufacturer based in Melbourne, in operation from 1870s until 1990s. The cuvette is signed Dennison watch Co., an English case maker. The watch comes with a chain with a fob at the end, featuring the Coat of Arms of Australia. Blending Swiss, English and Australian influences, this pocket watch is a testament for Rolex's international reach, even in the 1930s.

The two images features Mrs Elizabeth and Mr Thomas Foy. One was shot in front of the famous department store in Sydney “Mark Foy’s”. The other features a portrait which the Coat of Arms fob can be outlined on Mr Foy's suit.
