comprising three tall covered ewers (ashuralik), one lidded ewer with spout, five covered tureens, four covered bowls with two handles, five covered bowls without handles, three smaller covered dishes, seven covered round containers, eight jugs of varying sizes, some with handles, seven plates of varying sizes, two large oval trays, one smaller octagonal tray, one small footed bowl and one condiment holder with three compartments, all of varying colours and designs, some with lemon finials, some with rose finials, most with makers’ marks and numbers to bases

The Ottoman market became a significant customer of European porcelain in the eighteenth century and European porcelain factories began producing a range of products including dishes, bowls and sahlep jugs, catering specifically to the the Ottoman taste. This lot is an exceptionally large collection of Viennese porcelain, which found favour among the ruling classes of the Ottoman Empire. 

Closely related examples can be found in the Sadberk Hanim Museum (see Sadberk Hanim Museum, Istanbul, 1989).
