Emile Samson opened his ceramics firm in Paris in 1845 and successfully capitalised on the growing collector's market for antique fine China by producing ceramics in a multitude of styles, almost unrecognisable as revival pieces. His designs copy multiple styles, including Italian pottery, Iznik and other Islamic-ceramic inspired wares. For similar Iznik-style pieces produced by Samson, see F. Slitine, Samson: Génie de l’Imitation, Massin, 2002.
