Where acquired by Aso O. Tavitian.
Persian craftsmen of the Safavid period integrated many Chinese designs into their artistic repertoire. Heavily influenced by Chinese export wares of the late Wanli period, the Persian potter adopted and adapted long-standing themes of Chinese kraakware such as the crane and pagoda seen on the current lot. However, whilst the Chinese Kraakware was both precise and studied, the Persian designs appear more painterly and less inhibited.
