Qing dynasty, Qianlong period
清乾隆 青白玉浮雕梅竹雙清蓋瓶
the flattened meiping rendered supported on rockwork and surrounded by bamboo, lingzhi and narcissus at the foot, the vessel further depicted surrounded by a gnarled prunus tree issuing flowers, the cover with lappets and surmounted by a rope-twist finial, zitan stand

A similar jade vase from the Qing court collection is still preserved in the Palace Museum, Beijing and included in Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Jadeware (III), Hong Kong, 1995, pl. 67, and again in Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum, Jade, vol. 10: Qing Dynasty, Beijing, 2010, no. 37, where the author illustrates another related vase with similar rockwork.
Peter Arrell Brown Widener (1834-1915) was part of the founding partnership of the Philadelphia Traction Company. His legacy includes the Widener Library at Harvard University and the Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.
