Ce grand vase cylindrique est décoréavec soin et comporte une scène avec des cormorans debouts, entre lesquels sont placés de grands coquillages qui soulignent le caractère aquatique de la scène et surmonté d'un bordure composée d'un bandeau de pseudo-glyphes.

Les oiseaux capables de traverser les domaines du ciel, de la terre et de l'eau incarnait une importance particulière pour les Mayas. Cette particularité qui souligne une connotation surnaturelle est superbement représentée sur tout un ensemble de vases polychrome.

The vase is crisply painted with standing cormorants between them large shells enhance the aquatic imagery with the rim surrounded by a band of pseudo-glyphs.

Birds that could traverse the realms of sky, land and water were of particular significance to the Maya. Their facility to inhabit different worlds illustrated a supernatural connotation which is brilliantly depicted on a series of polychrome vases.
