This was the second film in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and was directed by Peter Jackson. It is based on the second of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings books, The Two Towers, published in 1954. The cast includes Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Bernard Hill, Christopher Lee, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Miranda Otto, David Wenham, Brad Dourif, Karl Urban, and Andy Serkis. Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) continue their journey towards Mount Doom in Mordor to destroy The Ring. They are joined by Gollum (Andy Serkis), the former owner of The Ring. Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) come up against the besieged Rohan kingdom, whose once the great king has fallen under Saruman's dangerous spell. Here they are reunited with the resurrected Gandalf (Ian McKellen), before fighting Saruman's men at the Battle of the Helm's Deep.
