In 2006, at the prestigious Baselworld fair commemorating the 30th anniversary of the iconic reference 3700, Patek Philippe introduced the reference 5980. This marked a significant milestone as it became the inaugural Nautilus to feature a chronograph complication. To achieve a cleaner dial layout, Patek ingeniously integrated all chronograph functions into a single co-axial subdial for elapsed minutes and hours. This design choice mirrored the innovative approach seen in the annual calendar reference 5960, which shared the same caliber.
Notably, the flyback chronograph function enables the wearer to reset the chronograph without halting it first. Originally available in stainless steel with a black-blue dial, Patek expanded the offering in 2013 to include a version in pink gold with a full pink gold bracelet. The bracelet adds an extra level of elegance and luxury to the watch, and the present example is offered with its complete set of accessories.
