JOSEPH VON KOPF | CLOAKED WOMAN, A PERSONIFICATION OF WINTER

The largely self-taught sculptor Joseph von Kopf was active in Würzburg and in Rome before settling in Baden-Baden. His oeuvre included busts and statues of German royalty, as well as allegorical figures such as the present personification of Winter, of which another version, dated 1876, was sold at Christie's London on 27 February 1997, lot 293.
