Romanoff and Juliet is a play by Peter Ustinov set in an imaginary country, Concordia, during the Cold War. This romantic comedy takes Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and adapts it to the political context of the confrontation between the USA and the USSR. In this play, the small country of Concordia finds itself up against the two enemies, each seeking to make it an ally. But in the middle of this political intrigue, a love story develops between Igor Romanoff, son of the Soviet ambassador, and Juliette Moulsworth, daughter of the American ambassador. The love story culminates in a wedding between the two young people, organized by the president of Concordia, played by Peter Ustinov himself.
The play premiered in Manchester, England, on April 2, 1956, and was nominated for a Tony Award the same year.
In 1961, Ustinov directed a film adaptation of his play, for which he was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Biennale, as well as for Best Director by the Director Guild of America.

Romanoff et Juliette est une pièce de théâtre de Peter Ustinov prenant place dans un pays imaginaire, le Concordia, durant la Guerre froide. Cette comédie romantique reprend l'histoire de Romeo et Juliette de Shakespeare en l'adaptant au contexte politique de l'affrontement entre les USA et l'URSS. Dans cette pièce, le petit pays du Concordia se retrouve face aux deux puissances qui cherchent chacun à en faire son allié. Mais, au milieu de cette intrigue politique, se noue une histoire d'amour entre Igor Romanoff, fils de l'ambassadeur soviétique et Juliette Moulsworth, fille de l'ambassadeur américain. L'intrigue amoureuse s'achèvera sur le mariage entre les deux jeunes gens, organisé par le président du Concordia, joué par Peter Ustinov lui-même.
La pièce est présentée pour la première fois à Manchester en Angleterre, le 2 avril 1956 et nommée la même année aux Tony Awards.
En 1961, Ustinov réalise une adaptation cinématographique de sa pièce, pour laquelle il est nommé pour l'Ours d'Or lors de la Biennale de Berlin mais également pour le meillleur réalisateur par la Director Guild of America.
