the curved double-edged blade with central ridge and fine, well-defined watered steel pattern, the plain tombak hilt of typical ‘capital-I’ form, with wooden scabbard covered entirely in en-suite tombak, the bud of the chape of ‘mango’ form, with suspension loop

The present dagger forms part of a small group of daggers set with plain tombak ‘capital-I’ shaped hilts with scabbards decorated en-suite. An example now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna (inv. no.Hofjagd- und Rüstkammer, C 88) belong to this group, as does one sold in these rooms, 31 March 2021, lot 103.
