Description
[Golf] — Hopkinson, Cecil
Collecting Golf-Books 1743–1938. London: Constable & Co., (1938)
8vo (190 x 124 mm). Half-title, bound with alternating blank leaves for annotation (unaccomplished in this copy). Publisher’s russet cloth, spine gilt-lettered; spine slightly cocked. Publisher’s printed green dust-jacket; spine a bit dulled, extremities trifle worn.
First edition. Joseph Murdoch relied on Collecting Golf-Books in compiling his own bibliography and considered it "The one and only The "definitive study of early golf literature. … It is of great value to the golf book collector and represents the best guide possible for someone contemplating a golf library." Hopkinson’s work was part of Constable’s "Aspects of Book-Collecting" series, whose other estimable contributors included John Carter, Graham Pollard, and Michael Sadleir. A very nice copy; scarce in jacket.
