Description
A South German Renaissance gilt copper tower table clock, probably Augsburg, mid-17th century
the posted brass bell-striking movement with fusee and chain drive for both trains, later wheel trains and anchor escapement, lacking alarm train, the case with silver hours dial at the front, lacking central alarm disk, above a quarters dial, the reverse with a strike recording dial, moulded square-section corner pillars, engraved fruit, shell and foliate decoration on all sides, onion domed top above an arcaded section enclosing the bell, surmounted by a turned finial and with similar finials on the corners, the ogee moulded repoussé base similarly decorated and raised on shallow bun feet
