The Patek Philippe reference 2438/1 was introduced in 1962 and discontinued in 1963. It is known to have been made in both yellow and pink gold and the watch is distinguished by centre seconds and screw down case back. According to literature, Patek Philippe made 50 examples in yellow gold and only 29 have appeared on the market. Consigned by an important private collector, the present example is a 2^nd series 2438/1 with a Mark II dial. The Mark II dial is determined by the rectangular faceted indexes and the watch is fitted with a moon phase indication that has more stars than the early generation examples. Preserved overall in very attractive and original condition, the hard enamel signature is nicely raised. The Wenger case has good flutting to the lugs, a crisp hallmark at the end of the bottom right lug and a second hallmark in the band at 10 o’clock.
