  • Features Polke’s signature elements: iconic Raster (polka dots) and Schleifen (loops).
  • Polke’s legacy is defined by major retrospectives at MoMA (New York), Tate (London), and Museum Ludwig (Cologne).

Ping Pong from 1995 is a deeply personal reflection by Sigmar Polke on his collaboration with the art edition of Süddeutsche Zeitung magazine (No. 46), conceived in parallel with his solo exhibition at the Haus der Kunst in Munich. In this work, the interplay of his signature Raster (polka dots) and Schleifen (loops) evokes both the halftone printing process and the trajectory of a ping pong ball: a humorous and characteristic nod to the dynamic exchange between the editors of the magazine and the artist.

Recognized as one of the most influential figures in contemporary painting, Polke is celebrated for his playful diversity of styles and experimental use of media. The artist’s enduring importance has been affirmed through major retrospectives at leading institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Tate in London, and Museum Ludwig in Cologne.
