8vo, 32 volumes (222 x 152 mm). Each volume with photogravure frontispiece and several plates reproducing vignettes by R.F. Zogbaum or F.O.C. Darley engraved by Thomas Phillibrown, Sealey & Smith, Louis Delnoce, among others. Uniformly bound in contemporary half black morocco over green cloth boards, spines with raised bands in six compartments, second and fourth gilt-lettered, others with repeat gilt decoration, green endpapers.
The Mellon copy
This set of complete works in 32 volumes, known as the "Leather-Stocking Edition," was limited to 1,000 copies, of which this is numbered 61. The set was owned by the famous American philanthropist, Paul Mellon.
