Description

the base with a six-character seal mark in underglaze blue

Height 19.7 cm, 7¾ in.

Adorned with crashing waves, graceful floral scrolls and auspicious ruyi borderwork, the present jar is a fine example of the blue-and-white porcelain produced during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (r. 1736 - 1795); its rich variegated blue tone designed to imitate the ‘heaped-and-piled’ effect found on earlier Ming dynasty wares.
