An archaistic jadeite pouring vessel and cover

Late Qing dynasty, circa 1900

清末 約1900年 翠玉雕仿古夔龍紋蓋瓶


of flattened rectangular section, the oblong body raised on a pedestal foot rising to a constricted neck and yi-form mouth, a loose ring suspended from the tip of the spout, the opposite side of the body with an archaistic kuilong-form handle, the sides carved with a wide register of geometric stylized scrolls between upright lappets and ruyi heads, the conforming cover with a geometric kuilong and double posts, the translucent pale green stone with dark spinach-green streaks, wood stand (3) 


Height 6 ½ in., 16.5 cm

Collection of Mrs. Walter N. Rothschild (1896-1987).

Gifted to the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, in 1963 (acc. no. 63.6.10).
