Description
One of the lesser-known diamond cuts, the marquise is steeped in history. Its origins go back to the 18th century when King Louis XV requested a diamond cut to resemble the slender lips of his mistress the Marquise de Pompadour. The finger-flattering style enjoyed a resurgence during the mid-20th century and, in 2011, Sotheby’s sold a 3.18 carat vivid blue marquise for over $1,000,000 per carat. Like that stone, this diamond is distinguished by Internally Flawless clarity. Combined with a very high color grade and significant size, this is a truly special gem.
The finished ring pictured here was selected from Sotheby’s archives to provide inspiration for designing your own bespoke jewel using the loose stone offered in this lot. Please note that this is just an example of the many design possibilities and is not available for purchase.
Accompanied by GIA report no. 1152966267 stating that the diamond is E color, Internally Flawless.
