A young boy holding a wine ewer is seated on the back of Saint George’s horse. He is a youth of Mytilene, who according to the legend was kidnapped and held by Muslims on Crete who used him as a servant. His prayers to Saint George to rescue him and return him to his parents were answered so quickly by the Saint’s appearance on his horse that the boy did not have time to put down the ewer from which he was serving wine.
