2 volumes, 8vo (6 1/8 x 3 3/4 in.; 156 x 93 mm). Minor offsetting. Tree calf with decorative gilt, flat spine in six gilt compartments, morocco labels to second and third compartment, all edges speckled, marbled endpapers; vol. I spine tail exposed, joint rubbed and starting, corners bumped, vol II loses to covers and spine, corners bumped. Housed in half red morocco and marbled boards slipcase.
The first complete edition of the Lyrical Ballads (adding one additional poem to volume 1, and 41 new poems with the second volume), and the first edition with Wordsworth's famous preface, which is in effect the manifesto for the English romantic movement. "Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility."
