This pair of commodes epitomizes the fashion to produce lacquered furniture pieces in Venice. Coming in different colours and decoration, the commodes rarely surviving as a pair adopt a similar shape, playful and most importantly adopt the Venetian archetypical form, the bombé shape. The organic design of the commodes is further underlined with gilt decoration elegantly framing the white lacquered ground. A similar commode blue and white lacquered was sold Sotheby's London, 5 November 2013, lot 130.
