A pair of portraits of a lady and gentleman


Both oil on copper, housed in silver cases, embossed with floral designs and engraved with the sitter’s coats of arms 

each 91 by 70 mm, 3 5/8 by 2 ¾ in

The Hall family of Yorkshire 

Although it has not been possible to identify the coat of arms of the gentleman, the lady, whose case is engraved with arms that read gules, a chevron ermine between three roses, may be a member of the Dicome family of Lincolnshire.

The gentleman is wearing the red sash of a Royalist officer.
