Introduced in 2015 at Basel, Patek Philippe launched the Reference 5905 as its new Annual Calendar Chronograph. It first debuted only cased in platinum, with a black of blue dial, and offered collectors an annual calendar and fly-back chronograph function in a more substantial 42 mm case. Often compared to the reference 5960, the 5905 has an increased diameter and has square pushers instead of the round ones. The watch is also easier to read as it focuses on two key complications: the chronograph and the annual calendar.
In 2021, Patek Philippe introduced a new iteration for this reference, which combined a highly popular stainless steel case and bracelet and a masculine olive green dial providing an undeniable charisma to this highly practical piece. This configuration, exemplified by the present lot, has been an instant success with a demand far exceeding the few deliveries to selected high profile clients.
