The KAWS x Yue Minjun 'Untitled Companion' sculpture is an extremely rare and highly coveted collaborative artwork, rarely seen on the market. Created for the 2008 exhibition "Art for the Masses" at the Museum of Tomorrow (MOT) in Taiwan, this piece represents a remarkable fusion of talents between New York-based artist KAWS and the esteemed Chinese artist Yue Minjun, renowned globally for his distinctive "laughing" portraits.
The Art for the Masses exhibition unveiled a total of five sculptures, among which the KAWS x Yue Minjun collaboration emerged as the highlight and the most anticipated piece of the event. The excitement surrounding this collaboration was further fuelled by Yue Minjun's artwork "Execution," which shattered records as the most expensive work ever by a Chinese contemporary artist, fetching £2.9 million pounds (US $5.9 million) at London's Sotheby's in 2007.
Standing at 11.5 inches tall, this particular edition is numbered 84 out of a mere 100 pieces, highlighting its exceptional rarity. The sculpture is accompanied by a smaller bubblegram version of the piece and a signed authentication card from MOT Arts.
