McCrea Hazlett (1916 - 2007) was an accomplished educator and American diplomat. His many accolades included serving as Provost and Vice-President, University of Rochester; Director, the Rochester Arts Council and Professor Emeritus of English, University of Rochester. His academic specialties included English literature of the 17th century and the art, literature and culture of India. He was the first Director of the American Institute of Indian Studies, Pune, India. In 1971, Hazlett was appointed cultural affairs officer to the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi.
