The Cosmograph Daytona 16520 was in Rolex’s production from 1987 to 2000, it is a very symbolic reference for Rolex as acts as the bridge for collector’s between vintage and modern models. Not only does it represent the first Daytona to house an automatic movement, it is also the last outsourced chronograph movement (Zenith) Rolex will ever use.
In the 13 long years of production, collectors have identified that Rolex have made a total of 6 different dials for the 16520 and the present example made in 1991 is one of the rarest among all. The dial is illustrated with 5-lines starting from Rolex, Oyster Perpetual, Superlative Chronometer, Offically Certified and ending with Cosmograph. While the watch itself is already immensely rare, this specific example has the silver outer ring of the subsidiary dials turning brown which is correct for this dial and will only happen to a small batch of dial from this period.
In very good overall condition and with an evenly aged tropical register, the present watch is highly desired by watch collectors. The case is still very crisp and still retains the original green factory sticker.
