Sir Ernest Cassel (1852–1921) was a German-born British banker and philanthropist who became one of the most powerful financiers of his era and one of the wealthiest men in Britain. Arriving in England at 16, he built a vast fortune financing railways, mining ventures, and infrastructure projects across Europe, the Americas, and Egypt. He was a trusted adviser to King Edward VII and grandfather of Edwina Mountbatten, Countess Mountbatten of Burma.
