First introduced in 1954, the Rolex GMT-Master was created for pilots and international travelers, developed in partnership with Pan American World Airways. Its clear dial layout, paired with a 24-hour bi-directional bezel, made it an indispensable tool for tracking multiple time zones and quickly established the model as a commercial success. The original reference 6542 was succeeded in 1959 by the updated reference 1675, a long-running iteration that remained in production until 1980.
The present example is fitted with the sought-after glossy, gilt “rail” dial, a configuration highly prized by connoisseurs of the GMT-Master lineage.
