A Frankenthal Figure of a Farmer , Circa 1759-62


modelled by Johann Wilhelm Lanz, standing carrying a sack over his left shoulder, with another standing upright behind him, both monogrammed with a crowned I.H, upon a small mound base applied edged in puce scrollwork picked out in gilding, rampant lion mark in underglaze-blue, JAH monogram for Joseph Adam Hannong, incised letters H n Z


height 6 1/8 in., 15.6 cm

A further example of this rare figure is illustrated in Friedrich H. Hofmann, Frankenthaler Porzellan, Band I, Munich, 1911, taf. 18, no. n72. A third was in the Collection of Jean Wurz, Mannheim, sold, Rudolph Lepke's Kunst-Auctions-Haus, Berlin, December 7-9, 1924, lot 90.
