This painting, and the previous lot, were one of a considerable number that were bequeathed by the late Mrs Mary Veitch (née Pitcairn), of 30 York Place Edinburgh, to the Royal Scottish Academy in 1875These comprised mostly non-British paintings and were generally described as Old Masters.
