Description
Château Léoville Las Cases 1978
St. Julien, 2ème Cru Classé
u. 7bn, 1hs, slightly damp-stained and bin-soiled labels, 1 wine-stained label from another bottle, corroded and oxidized capsules, importer strip overlapping front label
The first vintage after the late Michel Delon took over complete control from his father. In 2022, the nose is all cedary, rich black liquorice, with a blackcurrant kickback. Opulent and mouth-coating on the palate. Yet again, along with the Firsts and way, way at the top in this late vintage. Glorious structure, complex depth and oodles of glycerol. Extraordinary length, both extrovert and profound. Finish of cassis. Serena Sutcliffe, MW
