Description
Corton Charlemagne 2020
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Côte de Beaune, Grand Cru
Case banded prior to inspection
This comes from the small 2.9 hectare plot from two great locations of Le Charlemagne (Aloxe Corton) and En Charlemagne (Pernand Vergelesses) leased from Domaine Bonneau du Martray - the first vintage was 2019. The average age of the vines is 60 years and, from the outset, the transformation into something sublime has been super evident. The full class of this tremendous Grand Cru is now gloriously on show and the Domaine's handling of this precious terroir has been exceptional. In 2023, greengages and kiwi fruit on the nose, totally absorbing. Then, Normandy butter that continues to the palate in a very seductive way. Orangey flavours, plus the classy minerality. Indubitably great and utterly irresistible. Serena Sutcliffe, MW
