Description

the tapering curved double-sided fullered blade, decorated at the forte with a palmette and addorsed yalis and makaras, the cylindrical shaft with openwork flanges, decorated with registers of fleshy foliate and floral scrolls bordered by petal and palmette bands

Sotheby's London, The Stuart Cary Welch Collection, Part Two, Arts of India, 31 May 2011, lot 98.
The elaborate decoration on this spear head is typical of the weaponry from Tanjore during the seventeenth century that draws its inspiration from the carved architectural masonry of the region (see Elgood, R., Hindu Arms and Ritual, Arms and Armour from India, 1400-1865, Delft 2004).
