8vo, FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR ("To | E.F. Knight | with best of greetings! | Henry Miller | Paris | 5/4/39") on preliminary blank, original printed wrappers, minor split to front joint, very slightly frayed at head and foot of spine

Inscribed before the publication date of 10 May 1939. Pearson notes that publication was originally scheduled for February 1939, "but delayed for three months, as a result of which few copies were sold before the beginning of the war, the death of Kahane and the shutting down of the Obelisk Press..." This present copy, inscribed in April 1939 is, presumably, sufficiently early that it does not include the printed errata slip.
