3 parts in one volume, 4to (194 x 155mm.), additional engraved title to part one, 98 engraved plates (16 double-page or folding), old vellum over boards, some browning, first plate with repairs to verso, vellum with minor soiling


Johan Boxel was an officer in the army of the Dutch Republic. This drill manual was first published in 1670 and stressed the importance of drilling for success on the battlefield, which had been demonstrated by Prince Maurice earlier in the seventeenth century.
