FLETCHER, ANDREW, OF SALTOUN

Four works by him bound in one volume, comprising:

i. A discourse of government with relation to militia's (sic). Edinburgh, 1698, final leaf blank

ii. Two discourses concerning the affairs of Scotland. Edinburgh, 1698

iii. Discorso delle cose di Spagna, scritto nel mese di luglio 1698. Naples [i.e. Edinburgh], 1698

iv. A speech upon the state of the nation, in April 1701. [Edinburgh?: 1701?], 22pp., drop-head title

4 works in one volume, 8vo (158 x 100mm.), contemporary calf, some leaves spotted or browned, spine rubbed and chipped at head and foot

A good collection of Fletcher's works on political theory with a distinguished provenance. The Edinburgh imprints were most likely published by Fletcher himself, the first in this volume discussing standing armies, the second the economic crises facing Scotland (written just before the Darien venture), the third an ironic work on the Spanish Succession (using Campanella and Machiavelli as models), and the fourth a supplement updating his opinion about the Spanish Succession.
