ii. The prospective glasse of warre. Shevving you a glimpse of vvarres mystery, in her admirable stratagems, policies, ways. London: Printed for Roger Michell, 1628, FIRST EDITION, small 4to, woodcut illustrations, vellum gilt by Riviere with Christie Miller monogram on covers (and Britwell Court stamp on verso of title), Charles Lilburn and Fremantle bookplates, slightly cropped, lacking folding plate, [ESTC S122952 (one of 3 issues, all rare); Cockle 116 (different imprint)]
Cooke served with the Middlesex Company in the 1620s. David Lawrence considers Cooke's treatises to be "representative of the worst that English military writers had to offer" (The complete soldier, 2009, p. 216). Much of the text is taken from the English translations of Vegetius and Aelian.
