This attractive ring follows a characteristic strapwork design. See, for a more elaborate ring, that published in P. E. Muller, Jewels in Spain, 1500-1800, New York, 1972, p. 101, no. 164. The quality of the goldwork is reminiscent of the Colombian early 17th-century jewel from the shipwrecked Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Atocha, sold Sotheby's New York, 1 February 2013, lot 11. This might suggest that the present ring could have been made in the Spanish New World. However, its recent provenance in a Spanish collection could equally suggest that it was made in Spain.
