A. Busiri Vici, Trittico paesistico romano del '700. Paolo Anesi Paolo Monaldi Alessio De Marchis, Rome 1976, pp. 292–93, nos PM. 45–47 (as Paolo Monaldi), reproduced.

Although previously published as works by the genre scene artist and painter of peasants Paolo Mondaldi (1710–1779), these are now thought to be by his collaborator Paolo Anesi (1697–1773). Paolo Anesi was one of the most important paesaggisti working in Rome in the mid-eighteenth century and specialized in painting views and ideal landscapes inspired by Rome and the campagna.
