He has represented the Turkish national team since playing for their U-16 team in 2018 where they won a bronze medal at the FIBA Europe U-16 Championship. He also led the Turkey U-18 team to a silver medal at the FIBA Europe U-18 Championship and played for professional teams in Turkey before being drafted by the Rockets in 2021.

Alperen Şengün was drafted with the 16th pick in the 1st round of the 2021 NBA Draft. A bright talent in the league since joining, Şengün is the first player in NBA history to have recorded at least 3,000 points, 1,500 rebounds, and 700 assists while playing fewer than 6,000 minutes through the first three seasons during a career.
