Jument Arabe et son

Poulain, No. 1 (Kemlem-Handani)

signed P J MENE and inscribed SUSSE Fres Eds Paris

bronze

11 ½ by 18 ½ in.; 29.2 by 47cm.

Mêne's Jument arabe et son poulain is one of his most appealing groups of horses. The sculptor has expertly captured the somewhat awkward playfulness of a foal as it grows in stability and confidence. It is also a study in the behavioral relationship between mare and foal. The present cast is the larger version of the two known sizes.
