This expressive study, rendered in point of the brush and wash, is a dynamic example of the work of the Neapolitan sculptor and draughtman, Vincenzo Gemito.  An immensely gifted draughtsman, Gemito produced figure and portrait studies in a variety of media that were much sought after and admired by his contemporaries.  A major retrospective exhibition of the artist's works, sculptures and drawings, was held at the Petit Palais and the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples in 2019-2020.
