Description

Château d'Yquem 1997

Sauternes, 1er Grand Cru Classé

Good levels, excellent appearance, individual owc packed in outer cn; Bons niveaux, excellente apparence, owc individuelle emballée dans cn extérieur

The immense complications of harvesting over two months from 4 September to 4 November, with 7 'waves' of picking, have resulted in a wine of enormous complexity. The bouquet is

redolent of peach kernels and almonds which continues to the palate, with all the dimensions of caramel, tangerines and lemon butter and an aftertaste of spicy fresh ginger, reminiscent of a great rich Montrachet, with sugar of course, and even a touch of Sherry. Serena Sutcliffe, MW

Provenance:

A rare Bordeaux collection centered on Château Mouton Rothschild, enriched by mature treasures including Petrus and Château d’Yquem. Recently removed from the underground cellar of a family house in Continental Europe, where all bottles have been stored since purchased for the most reputable European Wine Merchants. The crown jewels are four venerable vintages of Lafite—1914, 1934, 1942 and 1948— all authenticated by Sotheby’s specialists, offering collectors a rare glimpse into more than a century of the estate’s history.
